Clinton started as the Mill District of of the town of Lancaster in Massachusetts, about 25 minutes from Worcester. Inventor Erastus Brigham Bigelow, who created the power carpet loom, started a gingham mill with his brother in the area in 1943, and when the mill grew, the town of Clinton grew around it. He later founded the Bigelow Carpet Mills, which sold carpets to the White House, the Waldorf-Astoria, and the Titanic. Clinton is also home to the oldest continuously used baseball field in the world. Fuller Field has been in use since 1878, and players today can still run the same base line as those who first stepped onto the field.
